I have looked at my kids and silently wished that I could dump them someplace, then catch up to the “life I was supposed to have” on a beach somewhere as an international jet set.” I think as parents it’s natural to have similar feelings of exasperation, however Cleveland and Lisa Cox, from Ohio did more than think about it, they acted upon it according to Yahoo and now they may face jail time.
Nine years ago Mr and Mrs Cox adopted a little boy through Butler County Children Services, today they face charges of reckless abandonment after returning the boy to the county siting the boy had “issues of aggressive behavior.” What nine year old boy doesn’t?
This is the kind of story that truly turns my stomach, have we become such a disposable society that people think it’s ok to ditch their kid because they are broken? That’s exactly when kids need their parents the most, when they have “issues.” Being a parent is easy when your kids are acting perfect, being a real parent is when you are there for them when they need you most. No matter what.
“I want to provide as much deterrent as I can for parents who think, ‘Oh, I’m honked off at my child; I can just abandon him,’” Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser tells Yahoo Shine. “After reviewing [the parents’] financial and psychological abilities, I couldn’t wrap my brain around any defenses people in these circumstances could have about wanting to give back a child.”
The little boy is now in protective custody as a ward of the state. From his home and his bed to a ward of the state. Gmoser explains that depending the outcome of a grand jury trial a judge will determine if the parents can ditch the little boy for good and face a possible six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor.
That’s it!
The boy’s court-appointed attorney, Adolf Olivas, tells the Associated Press that the boy remains hurt and confused. “If your 9-year-old needs help, you get him help,” he says. “It is not a question of a 9-year-old wanting it or not.
The damage that this will cause this little boy is permanent. His mom and dad, the two people a kid is supposed to trust the most in the world, returned him, like a ugly sweater to Target.
I don’t want to rant, but come on! We need a license to fish, drive use a fuc*ing paddle board in the Des Plaines River, but any jerk can have kids. I don’t want to go all “China” on you, but maybe it’s time to monitor these things a little closer.
Cleveland and Lisa Cox, from Ohio are an embarrassment to parents and humans, if that little boy needs a home and love, send him our way.
Please keep this little boy in your thoughts and prayers.
