I used to live four blocks from a shiny new Dominick’s, it was a beautiful place, full of amazing produce, fresh baked breads, friendly people and a wine selection that always kept me smiling.
Now, it is an empty shell slowly transforming into Mariano’s. While we wait for the caterpillar to turn into a butterfly, we are officially Dominick’s refugees, looking for a place to land our shopping carts and get food.
We decided to sail over to Jewel/Osco in Glenview, about two miles away. Two miles, how much different could it be?
Before I answer that, I will openly admit I am a North Shore snob. I like things a certain way and get all pissy if they are not. That being said, the Jewel in Glenview is a dirty hell hole, where produce goes to die.
I wanted to be open minded, even excited about the experience of Jewel, but after 10 trips there, I am done. Jewel you are fired! I am not the only one. Cool a$s city moms don’t like it and they are super open minded about all kinds of junk.
Annie Swingen of Swirleytime is a cool, smart, sometimes angry mom who knows how to write, you should read her blog. She agrees with me and actually caught salmonella from the milk at Jewel when she was a kid. The hate for Jewel is universal and the whole Osco thing? Why! Dominick’s was Dominick’s, Sunset Foods is just Sunset Foods, why oh God why do they have to make things so hard! It’s weird, hard to navigate and I am done.
Anyway, the eight reasons I will no longer shop at Jewel/Osco are above in a a gallery with pictures, all of these were taken on one trip! Am I being a snob or is Jewel kind of gross
BTW- Like DAD on his Facebook page, our produce is crisp and fresh. Click here.
