I have never been to the Redmoon Theater, heard about it plenty, but never actually attended a performance. Friday night (December 13th) WIFE and I went to the opening night of their Winter Pageant, with no idea what to expect.
WIFE loves “dance,” I thought this would be a great way to score some “points” and surprise her, since the only time I really want to see any kind of dancing it involves a “pole”(you can get them for your home!!).
I try to be open minded when it comes to the arts, however normally when someone brings up interpretative dance, it makes me squirm and think “that’s what my barista does when he isn’t making lattes.” Redmoon changed all of that.
Their Winter Pageant blends all kinds of dance: Hip Hop, Indian, Belly dancing along with humor, music, great costumes a story presented in an imaginative way that held my attention from beginning to end.
Inspired by the poem “The Conference of the Birds” by Farid ud-Din Atta. Winter Pageant is the story of a brave pigeon and how day and night was created. Our pigeon friend reluctantly goes on an adventure where he battles a mean raven, reindeers and a lot of monkeys.
The creativity and imagination that goes into the show is something to be experienced, the fun and energy that the performers are having shines through as they dance, act, sing and fly above the audience.
Maybe my barista is dancing amongst the 40 performers, but that’s what makes Redmoon’s Winter Pageant so amazing: it’s about people who love to dance and perform, young, old, tall, short, skinny and not so skinny, their passion for what they are doing shines through like the Tree of Light the brave Pigeon is trying to save.
Is it for kids? Yes! Kids of all ages. They were everywhere, laughing, clapping and cheering through the entire show.
How do you dress? Unlike the ballet, you dress anyway you want, comfortable, cool, fun, it’s up to you.
Are there tickets still available? Yes, the show is only playing until December 22, so click here to get your tickets to the Redmoon Theater Winter Pageant and remember to cheer on the teddy bear playing the electric guitar, he’s awesome.
