DAD’s “real job” is as a television producer, hang around with me for more than an hour then you will know I have won 5 Emmy Awards..yup 5.
Anyway, being in the business, getting the opportunity to talk to the creators of Frozen wasn’t high on my to do list of stuff I wanted to accomplish earlier this month while I was on a trip to Los Angeles.
I know plenty of producers and directors and to be honest some of them can be, well, a little, um, full of themselves. More than me, and that’s saying something.
As we sat down at the Disney Animation Studios with Frozen’s Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee and Producer Peter Del Vecho, I felt like a kid being dragged into Sunday school. I wanted to go outside and play, but I had to sit here and listen to these guys, like a good little blogger.
Here’s the thing, Buck, Lee and Del Vecho aren’t your stereotypical “Hollywood types” the thought caring that exudes from the three filmmakers is the foundation to the success of this Oscar Award winning film.
When you watch Frozen, available on DVD on March 18th, you will see the final product of painstaking detail and thought that is hard to put into words.
Elsa and Anna may seem like pretty princesses in beautiful dresses who can dance and sing, but each of their characters and the relation ship between the two were planned, written, re-written, animated, tweaked, played with again and again and again, until they were prefect.
Hearing the three filmmakers talk about the various characters in the film reminded DAD of hearing a parent talk about their children, familiar, happy and proud.
“Oh Olaf” his hair was a big problem, we wanted it to bounce naturally, so we developed a new animation process.”
“When Anna is dancing through the village we needed her dress to move along with her so we hired one of the best designers to consult with us to get a natural look”
They are proud “parents” of a child that is now out in the world and making something of himself/herself, they were eager and excited to talk to the group any answer every question that was thrown at them.
When Frozen does finally come out on March 18th, make sure to check out the commentary track, it’s the closest you can get to being in the room with the people in charge.
This is one of them sponsored posts, Disney paid for me to go out there and interview these folks, and then drink, sweet right? However that being said the experience was once in a lifetime, I wish you all could have been there, can you imagine the bar tab!
To learn more about Buck, Lee and Del Vecho check out the blogs from the other bloggers who were there, one of them, The TV Mom even has a video of the entire interview, so you can see and hear the passion yourself.

Ahem…I was there and I adore Peter Del Vecho. He’s a class act from start to finish. In fact, I can’t think of a single Disney producer, director, etc., who’s been less than fabulous. Oh wait, there was one. 🙂
I’ve yet to see the film. I have to steal it from my son and DIL because they DVDnapped it from my mail. 🙂 I swear, one of these days I’ll know what all the fuss is about.
