What do, pizza, an omelet bar, a mountain of bacon, prime rib, a chocolate fountain, bocce ball and quiet children have in common? Pinstripes Sunday Brunch, or as they call it Pintastic Brunch.
We are a Sunday brunch kind of family, it’s the one morning a week I don’t have ot cook! Despite living a few miles from the Pinstripes in Northbrook we have never checked it out, until we were invited to the Santa Brunch on December 6th. The teenager calls this #Dadperks, I call it a morning off.
Feeding three kids, one of with Autism can be tricky when eating out anywhere, but on a Sunday, when Santa Clause is coming to town, we accepted an invitation to eat at Pinstripes, but were ready for the worst: lines, cold food, kids melting down, lines etc.
What we got was something completely different, something tasty, calm and enjoyable. Pinstripes Sunday brunch isn’t your average scrambles eggs and waffle maker fair. No, this is something that has been well thought out, well prepared, covered in chocolate and made to order for everybody in the family. There is literally something for everyone and that my friends is hard to do.
The food in well cooked, warm and there’s plenty of it. The selection is huge and it includes a “kids area” with pizza, chicken nuggets and French fries, because not everybody likes breakfast foods. That also goes for the adults: fresh fruit, omelets made to order, a carving station with three kinds of meat, pizza, pasta, chicken, bruschetta, parfait, salads and much more. When it’s all over the chocolate fountain surrounded with just about everything you can think of dunking is waiting to add a smile to your face and make your belly happy.
Reservations are suggested, but it never felt crowded or overwhelming. Pinstripes is a big place and they use their space well. Our son with Autism is prone to “freaking out” when things get too intense, despite everything that was going on, he stayed calm, ate like a college freshman and never lost his cool. The teenager put her phone down and actually smiled and the Boy (7 years old) shared a plate of chocolate covered bacon that I will be back for…yes, chocolate covered bacon!
When it was over we all went into the bocce ball area and played bocce for an hour, which was equally as fun. There is also the option to go bowling, but we didn’t want to stray that far from the chocolate fountain.
Right now there are four Pinstripes locations in the Chicago area: Northbrook, Oak Brook, Chicago and South Barrington, they are open for Sunday brunch as well as all week for lunch, dinner, corporate events and even a tots playtime.
