Earlier this week the kids over at Hammervision (great blog) reviewed the new FOX show Dads. In a nutshell “it’s an awful pile of donkey dung and Seth MacFarlane should be dragged through the streets of Hollywood for creating such a piece of vomitus garbage.” Paraphrasing of course.
Though the show Dads blows Caillou’s annoying bal@s, it did spark the conversation about who are the best and worst television fathers on TV today.
The list of awful fathers is pretty long, good dads, pretty short. Why is that? I know a ton of great DADs and even a few who would make interesting topics for TV shows, from cops to musicians. Is that what Hollywood thinks the rest of America wants to see their father figures portrayed on television as drunk, mean, absent, abusive men.
Say what you want about the premise of the show Castle, at least the guy cares about his kid. They make it a point to show him interacting with his daughter and taking an interest in her life. Crazy!
Yes, my pick for best overall television dad is Rick Castle. He is raising his daughter in the mean streets of New York, a writer, a part time cop, yet he still has time to cook for her, talk to her and every once in a while beat up bad guys in her honor. Yes, TV viewers, find me a better television dad than Rick Castle.
We are leaving reality dads off the list, because there are really no good and a whole lot of bad.
Just sticking to fictional characters, the gallery below is our good versus evil TV Dads.
BTW- Remember to hit the LIKE button if you like this. This is the kind of crap that the people who let us do this crap judge us by, so hook a brother up and show them that this is good crap. If you got a second do the same for the ol’ Facebook page.
