Strong headline right? Well might as well get to it, because that’s the question people keep asking me “is Need For Speed good?” Yes.
I am not a video game guy, so I had no idea that Need For Speed was based on the racing game that sold 140 million units since it’s debut 1994.
What I did know was it starred Aaron Paul, you know “Jesse” from Breaking Bad. Despite what you think of Paul’s character in Breaking Bad, the dude can act and that alone was enough to get me to check out Need for Speed (that and Disney paid for me to go to LA to see a preview of it and they were driving and paid for the popcorn).
Going into a movie like Need for Speed you have to understand a few things: it’s a fun movie, it wasn’t made to win an academy award and it’s pretty predictable. That’s not necessarily bad, most action movies are the same way. The good guys always beat the bad guys, the action is unbelievable and the dialogue is okay.
So we know the ending, the good guys win. However it’s the journey towards that ending in Need for Speed that makes it good. There were several times where I literally jumped out of my seat from an unexpected twist or action sequence completely surprised me.
What makes Need for Speed better than Fast and the Furious is Aaron Paul, well that and some pretty kick as$ action and amazing cars.
Would I have paid money to go see Need for Speed? Yes, providing we were able to get a sitter and it was “my turn” to pick which movie we went to, heck yes, I would pay to see Need for Speed.
Need for Speed opens in theaters this weekend. It’s a 200 mile an hour joy ride of an action film that is fun, entertaining and yes, good.
Check out the trailer below and don’t miss Need for Speed.
Bahahhaa it had something to do with a video game!?! News to me.
And woa – BETTER than Fast and Furious?! I don’t know that I could take it THAT far… 😉
